Nonmelanoma skin cancers (NMSCs) comprise more than one third of all cancers in the United States and are widely described as a worldwide epidemic.[1] The term "nonmelanoma skin cancer" includes 2 major types: basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). These cancers typically appear on sun-exposed areas of the body, such as the face, ears, neck, lips, and backs of the hands, but they can also develop within scars or skin ulcers and on the skin of the genital area.
