Vocal cord
The vocal cords are one group of the features of the human larynx
responsible for the production of sound, including speech. They work like a
reed instrument, vibrating and modulating the flow of air being expelled
from the lungs.
Structurally, the vocal cords are a pair of flaps, resembling the valves of
the heart, on either side of the larynx. Their tension and shape can be
adjusted by muscles.
